Executive Board New Member – Nicola Armaroli

Dr Nicola Armaroli is a new Member of EuChemS Executive Board. Nicola Armaroli, who will start his mandate on the 1 January 2018, was elected by EuChemS General Assembly.
Nicola Armaroli got the PhD in Chemical Sciences in 1994 at the University of Bologna. Since 2007 he has been Research Director at CNR, the Italian National Research Council. He is listed among the most-cited Italian scientists of all disciplines. He is the former chairman of the EuChemS Working Party on Chemistry and Energy and has served as EuChemS representative on several occasions. He is Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), associate editor of Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences, (RSC) and member of the Editorial Board of Chemistry-A European Journal (Wiley-VCH) and Polyhedron (Elsevier Science). He serves as director of Sapere, the first Italian science periodical, established in 1935.
His activity is concerned with the photochemistry and photophysics of coordination compounds, carbon nanostructures and supramolecular arrays and materials, with focus on luminescence, light harvesting, energy transfer and electron transfer. These studies aim at developing new materials for lighting technologies and solar energy conversion. He has published over 200 scientific papers and several books on the subject of energy.
He has given invited lectures at international conferences, universities and research centers worldwide and serves as referee for the most important scientific editors as well as for national and international funding agencies and private companies and foundations. He has run European projects as CNR principal investigator or coordinator in the frame of COST, FP5, FP6, FP7 and H2020 programmes, funded by the European Commission.
Nicola Armaroli is also an active consultant and science communicator for the public at large on the issues of energy, natural resources and environment, also through interviews and contributions on mass media.
He was awarded the 2001 Grammaticakis-Neumann International Prize in Photochemistry, the Premio Letterario Galileo 2009 for science dissemination and the 2017 Gold Medal Enzo Tiezzi of the Italian Chemical Society.
