In February 2018 EuChemS submitted an answer to the European Commission’s Public Consultation on the initiative to limit industrial trans fats intakes in the EU. In this answer, which is accessible here, EuChemS calls for extending the nutrition declaration (Art. 30 (EU) No 1169/2011) to include trans fatty acids, as well as for harmonizing the current different national recommendations.
EuChemS strongly recommends further funding of research on the metabolic role and fate of single-unsaturated trans fatty acids, on the occurrence and metabolic fate of polyunsaturated trans linolenic and linoleic acids in animals and humans, on possible interactive effects of TFAs with other dietary components, and on TFAs formation during food processing.
EuChemS complete position can be read here.
