First EuChemS @Global Women’s Breakfast 2021
Feb 12, 2021
The European Chemical Society (EuChemS) organised its first Global Women’s Breakfast event, as a part of the global initiative of IUPAC. The event took place online on 9 February 2021. It was hosted by Pilar Goya, EuChemS Vice-President.
Speakers from the European Chemistry community discussed diversity empowerment in the chemical sciences. The topics for discussion were the following:
- STEM education for school-age kids
Gill Reid, President-elect of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and Nineta Hrastelj, EuChemS Secretary General
- Work-life balance
Angela Agostiano, Professor at the University of Bari, and Brigitte Van Tiggelen, Chair of the EuChemS Working Party on the History of Chemistry - Building Professional Networks
Slavica Ražić, Chair of the EuChemS Division of Analytical Chemistry and member of the EuChemS Executive Board, and Carina Crucho, Treasurer of the European Young Chemists’ Network (EYCN)
This interactive webinar, which was moderated by Yrja Oftedahl, was a tremendous success: more than 150 participants from 33 different countries joined. It was also an opportunity for the attendees to network through the chat box.
New LinkedIn group “European Chemistry Network on Inclusion and Diversity”
Also, the LinkedIn group “European Chemistry Network on Inclusion and Diversity” was launched to promote inclusion, equity, and diversity in the chemical sciences. This LinkedIn group aims at connecting chemists across Europe through a European-wide network and focuses on science opportunities, discussions, news, events and jobs within the chemistry sector.
