The European Chemical Society, EuChemS, has recently answered to the Public Consultation on the new soil strategy of the European Commission.
In this open survey to all EU citizens, EuChemS underlined the importance of the soil in land users practices. The main points were:
- Biodiversity preservation
- Sustainable practices
- Soil assessment
- European Union’s actions
- Skills transfer at local and global scale
We put particular stress on the integration of the soil’s balance of elements, regarding the macro and micro elements.
Soil degradation has been taken into account in the new EU soil strategy. This legislation takes part of the EU biodiversity strategy for 2030, following the Sustainable Development Goal 15.3 of the United Nations (neutral land degradation by 2030). This strategy aims to align the existing policy frameworks with the objectives of the European Green Deal.
