New EuChemS Constitution Approved
Jun 8, 2023
On 26 May, the new EuChemS Constitution was adopted at a Brussels notary, in the presence of the EuChemS legal advisor, EuChemS President Floris Rutjes, and EuChemS Secretary General Nineta Hrastelj. The new constitution was approved with an almost unilateral, overwhelming majority of votes from Member Organisations.
Changing the constitution was triggered by the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic, as to allow online annual meetings outside of crisis situations, if needed. While regular future general assemblies are still expected to be held in person, the new constitution will allow online GA-s outside of crisis situations – however, only in exceptional cases.
This change reflects the approach explained in our 2022 yearbook, stating that remembering the lessons we have learned during the crisis, such as utilising remote technologies, remains important after returning to the post-pandemic world.
