EuChemS strengthens transatlantic ties at ACS Spring 2025
Apr 14, 2025
From 23 to 27 March, EuChemS participated in the ACS Spring 2025 meeting in San Diego, contributing to an engaging week of international collaboration, science-policy dialogue, and celebration of excellence within the global chemistry community.
During the meeting, Secretary General Nineta Hrastelj and Vice-President Floris Rutjes held high-level discussions with ACS leadership, including CEO Albert Horvath and COO LaTrease Garrison. The exchange focused on ongoing collaboration under the EuChemS–ACS Memorandum of Understanding, with particular attention given to the 10th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC10), joint policy advocacy efforts, and the 4th Employment Survey for European Chemists (ESEC4).
The EuChemS delegation also connected with leading figures in the ACS community, including Mary Carroll, Immediate Past President, and newly elected 2025 ACS President-Elect Rigoberto Hernandez.
A highlight of the visit was Nineta Hrastelj’s invitation to speak at a special award symposium honouring Rachel Mamlok-Naaman, this year’s recipient of the ACS Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences. The session honoured Rachel’s influential work in chemical education and her continued dedication as Immediate Past Chair of the EuChemS Division of Chemical Education.
EuChemS is proud to continue fostering strong transatlantic partnerships that promote scientific excellence, gender equality, and evidence-informed policy in chemistry.
