Division of Chemistry in Life Sciences – New Chair
Apr 24, 2017
Prof. Sonsoles Martín-Santamaría is the new Chair of the EuChemS Division of Chemistry in Life Sciences.
Prof. Martín-Santamaría is PhD in Organic & Pharmaceutical Chemistry, by the Universidad Complutense of Madrid (1998), where she worked on asymmetric synthesis of MDR reversors. She carried out two postdoctoral stays on Computational Chemistry and Molecular Modelling: the first one at Imperial College (1998-2000), and a second one at Universidad de Alcalá (2000-2003). In 2004, she joined Universidad CEU San Pablo as a “Ramon y Cajal” researcher, where she became Assistant Professor in 2008 and Associate Professor in 2011. In June 2014, she joined CSIC (Spanish Research Council) as Staff Scientist. Sonsoles leads the Computational Chemical Biology group since 2012. Her research interests lie at the interface between Chemistry and Biology. Her group applies Molecular Modeling and Computational Chemistry to the understanding of ligand-receptor interactions and molecular recognition processes relevant for the design of drugs and biological probes. They combine these investigations with structural and biological studies, within a multidisciplinary and integrative approach. She is President of the Chemical Biology Division of the RSEQ and Chair of the Division of Chemistry in Life Sciences of EuChemS.
