The Working Party organizes on a biennial basis an international conference on Chemistry for Cultural Heritage which is aimed at providing an international platform for presentation and discussion on new and advanced chemical technologies applied to diagnosis, understanding causes and state of conservation, ancient production techniques, development and evaluation of restoration materials and methods for movable and immovable cultural properties.
The 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd edition of the International Congress in Chemistry for Cultural Heritage (ChemCH) took place in Ravenna (Italy) in 2010, Istanbul (Turkey) in 2012 and Vienna (Austria) in 2014 respectively.
The 4th International Congress of Chemistry for Cultural Heritage, ChemCH-2016, took place in Brussels from 5 to 9 July, 2016. The congress was organised by the Belgian Societe Royale de Chimie in collaboration with the Royal Institute for Cultural heritage (IRPA-KIK). Read more.
The 5th International Congress of Chemistry for Cultural Heritage, ChemCH-2018, was held from 3 to 7 July, 2018, at the Central University Library of Bucharest, Romania. The congress was organized by the Romanian Association “Science and Cultural Heritage in Connection” in collaboration with National Research & Development Institute for Textiles and Leather through its Advanced Research for Cultural Heritage (ARCH Lab) Group and National Museum of Romanian Literature, under the auspices of the Romanian Chemical Society. The event chaired by Dr. Elena Badea and her team received the patronage of the Romanian Ministry of Research and Innovation. Read more.
The 6th International Congress of Chemistry for Cultural Heritage, ChemCH-2022 originally scheduled for July 2020, has been postponed to July 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To ensure wide participation in exchanges and dialogue, the congress will be organised in a hybrid form, hosting lecturers and participants both in presence and online. Read more.
The 7th International Congress of Chemistry for Cultural Heritage, ChemCH-2024 will take place in Winter Riding Hall of Bratislava Castle, in Bratislava, Slovakia from 2nd to 5th July 2024. Read more.
