EuChemS Historical Landmark Award ceremony at Jungfraukoch High Altitude Research Station
Feb 22, 2023
The EuChemS Historical Landmark Award Plaque was inaugurated at the Sphynx observatory of the Jungfraujoch High Altitude Research Station on 17 February, preceded by a Symposium on 16 February.
During the symposium, invited speakers have introduced the wide range of research areas related to Jungfraujoch, or to high altitude processes. The speakers and abstracts can be found in the booklet of the event. Alongside invited speakers, Floris Rutjes also gave a welcome address, as well as the President of the High Altitude Research Stations Jungfraujoch and Gornergrat Foundation (HFSJG) Silvio Decurtins and the representative of University of Bern Markus Leuenberger.
On the following day, the EuChemS delegation visited the site at 3571 metres above sea level. After the ceremony, the group was invited to visit the research laboratories, as well as the plateau with a scenic panorama. During the visit, researchers from Jungfraujoch introduced their research processes on the spot.
The Jungfraukoch High Altitude Research Station recieved the EuChemS Historical Landmark Award in recognition of the pioneering work and exceptional “liaison réussie” between the research group of Prof. Marcel Migeotte (1912-1992) with collaborators from the University of Liège, Belgium, and the International Foundation of the High Altitude Research Stations Jungfraujoch and Gornergrat (HFSJG), Switzerland.
