In May 2018, EuChemS had provided feedback on the draft UNESCO Recommendation on Open Educational Resources (OER) text. The text aims to offer ways forward to implement and encourage the greater use and value of ”teaching, learning and research materials in any medium – digital or otherwise – that reside in the public domain or have been released under an open license that permits no-cost access, use, adaptation and redistribution by others with no or limited restrictions”. The recommendation text was largely supported by the Slovenian government and input from stakeholders, researchers, educators and other experts from around the globe.
The recommendation which had recently passed an important stage, greeted and supported by a number of UNESCO member states, was formally adopted on 25 November at the UNESCO’s General Conference.
