The 2024 EU Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) was held on 9-14 September in Katowice, Poland. The best chemistry entry of this contest is recognised by an award donated by EuChemS. This year, Janis Bojko from Czechia received the EuChemS prize for his project “Synthesis of new selective-dual inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinases”
This research was an entry into the chemistry category. Janis Bojko aims to develop novel biologically active agents inhibiting the CDK4/6 and FLT3-ITD protein complex, which may contribute to the treatment of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). The synthesis of the target substance was carried out by a seven-step reaction sequence. Six of the eight compounds prepared are novel structures that have not yet been described in the literature.
