EuChemS Science Communication and Policy officer Marton Kottmayer was invited as a speaker to the online event of the young Swiss Chemical Society (youngSCS) on science-policy, held on 18 September. He was presenting alongside Jovana Milic, Assistant Professor at the University of Fribourg and SNSF fellow, who also has extensive experience in Science for Policy initiatives.
During the event, Jovana Milic addressed the topic of science-policy from the perspective of a chemist in her talk titled “From Synthesis to Science Advice for Policy and Diplomacy”. Marton Kottmayer’s talk “The “how”-s and “why”-s of science-policy” followed by delving into the structure of EU legislation and its connection to science.
The event concluded by two breakout room discussions, one focusing on the challenges and misalignments between scientists and policymakers, while the other tackled a challenging case study of an EU regulation, with emphasis on science-policy.
